The Color of Compromise

The Color of Compromise

In response to racial injustices enacted on our streets in recent months, many of us are asking, “What is God calling us to do?” We have an action… but the shape of that action is not self-evident or straightforward. Therefore, we must develop Cultural Intelligence as a knowledge base before we jump into Cultural Intelligence strategy and action.

As we seek to move forward in actively living into racial justice and reconciliation, we are, ironically, called to look back: to listen, learn, and reflect on the history of the American church (A past of which we may not have participated in but, nonetheless, of which are inheritors.) to allow God to transform our future.

To this end, Grace Alliance Church invites you to join Dr. Reginald S. Screen of the 3L Cultural Intelligence Group, Inc. to read The Color of Compromise by Jemar Tisby. A narrative historical survey, The Color of Compromise takes readers on a journey: from America’s early colonial days through slavery and the Civil War, to the tragedy of Jim Crow laws and the victories of the Civil Rights era, to today’s Black Lives Matter movement, to reveal how the American church has actively and passively perpetuated racism. Written not just about the church, but for the church, The Color of Compromise is not aimed at condemning the church but about helping us understand our history and complicity, so we can be open to the places God desires to bring healing, justice, and reconciliation. Remember, “Whatever is denied, cannot be healed!”

Our online discussion of The Color of Compromise will run on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 from January 7th through February 18th. Every session will be recorded. Even if you aren’t able to attend the sessions, you will still be able to watch later online. To participate in the 7-week book study, please enroll by sending your email address to GAC.office.staff@gmail.com.

Alliance Ministries

As Jesus’ love transforms us, we are compelled to share His healing love with our neighbors. Alliance ministries show best how we share the practical message of Christ’s love with the marginalized, the poor, the wounded, and the sick at home and around the world.
